The Writers Club (Querying)
College senior Alvin Addison never wants school to end. When the campus Adderall dealer gets arrested and the campus is dry of the drug others rely on to pull all nighters, he sees an opportunity to go out with a bang.
Alvin forms a business with three fellow English major friends writing papers for other students. And at first, life is great: parties, girls, and easy money. But each is dealing with crazy family members back at home, like an addict sibling who can’t stay out of jail, and a chain-smoking mom with lung cancer. Graduation, family issues, and real life loom like a hangover.
When one of them is accused of sexual assault and threatens to turn the others in if they don’t help him cover it up, Alvin and the others have to think about how much more they’re willing to risk. Can they pull off the ultimate senior year shenanigans with the writing business, or will they get expelled before graduation?
Maplecrest Manor (Drafting)
Young, single mom Deanna Winters has enough to deal with. Her hyperactive son Griff is out of school for the summer, and she’s pulling double duty caring for him while working from home with no help.
She smokes pot to deal with the stress, which wouldn’t be such a big deal if she didn’t have cystic fibrosis. Which involves time-consuming daily treatments that Deanna…doesn’t exactly keep up with.
It all becomes too much when she starts seeing the ghosts of her son’s dead father, and his father too, who appear to want to warn her about something. With her health declining, she questions her sanity.
Finally, some help comes in the form of her downstairs neighbor Janice, who offers to watch Griff during the day. But after getting a tip from a fellow mom, Deanna starts to suspect that the woman Griff spends so much of his time with isn’t who she seems – and neither is her disabled daughter. And this might be exactly why the spirits of those who weren’t there for her when they were alive are appearing now.
